The latest addition to the Fodder Network, Pop Fodder, is my own labor of love. See, I've got this pathological fixation with creativity -- when a movie or TV show or book or performance drops my jaw, I want to tell the world about it. I want everyone to know that someone has put forth an effort that truly deserves attention.

And that's where Pop Fodder comes in. This is the pulpit from which myself and other Fodder editors will pontificate on the pop culture stuff that gets our juices flowing. Readers are invited to agree or disagree or even offer their own shout-outs -- it's all good by us!

I'm seconds away from shutting down my computer and officially unplugging for the holiday season, but before I head out into a digital-free world, I'd like to offer a taste of what's to come in Fodder land.

As we move into '06, keep your eyes peeled (anyone else think that's a gross image?) for the following:

Battlestar Fodder: Dedicated to the truly great sci-fi show, "Battlestar Galactica."

24 Fodder: Jack Bauer returns. We'll be monitoring his implausible but highly entertaining hijinks with "24" reviews and news.

American Idol Fodder: Keep up with the latest "AI" developments, and enjoy our snarky commentary to boot (expect a few Constantine rants to creep in -- we just can't help ourselves).

Kid Fodder: A bona fide expert with honest-to-God academic credentials (a PhD!) will discuss parenting issues and assorted kid stuff.

Yoga Fodder: Get ready to relax ... and have the workout of your life.

And there's a lot more where that came from -- the year ahead promises to be filled with bloggy excitement!

To all our readers, visitors and, yes, even our critics, we wish you a wonderful and restful holiday season.

See you in '06!

I was contacted last week by Jason Boog, a writer for Ziff's excellent Publish.com site. Jason asked me to comment on Salon.com's entry into the video blog (vlog) arena, and of course I couldn't resist the urge to pontificate ad nauseam (I've written about vlogs on the Indiepub Blog).

So you want to know a little about me ...

I've worked as an online journalist, producer and consultant at all sorts of Web sites (news, entertainment, tech, you name it). I have a bachelor's and a master's in journalism. I teach classes in online journalism, I'm a contributor on Poynter's E-Media Tidbits blog, and I help companies and individuals improve their existing Web sites (get consulting info and rates). I hand-code my Web sites and I write and edit in a stripped-down text editor (just say no to Word!). I'm not sure if this stuff is impressive or not, but I just used "I" in this paragraph 10 times so I (11!) feel pretty good about myself.

At various points in my career I've tried to disconnect from the Web world, but I always come back. I've since concluded that I'm meant to do this stuff.

My main area of professional interest is independent Web publishing, which I consider a far broader category than mere blogging. I became fascinated by the Web upon first logging into my college's antiquated VAX system. From the beginning, the Web always made sense to me. It's a revolutionary communications medium that puts enormous power in the hands of anyone with the time and inclination to publish a Web page. Seriously -- how cool is that?

When I'm not staring at a computer, I enjoy watching movies (visit my site filmfodder) and television (TV Fodder), laughing at edgy humor and absorbing pop culture. I am a passionate and irrational supporter of the Red Sox and Patriots. I rank 2004 as the single greatest sports year in the history of history.

Sadly, these few paragraphs do an adequate job of summing up my existence. With that I'll shut up and let you get on with it.

Sites in The Fodder Network gather general information about traffic and site usage. In doing so, we have access to some user information. Our logging procedure allows us to know the most common IP addresses that visit our site and we can also discern things like the most popular browser and the most active days and hours. However, we do not associate real people to their IP addresses, nor will we ever do so.

When you visit Fodder Network forums, the forum software will save a cookie onto your hard drive. Don't worry, a cookie isn't a bad thing. The general information stored on this cookie makes it possible for you to visit the forums without logging in and out all the time. Fodder Network staffers often enjoy the pleasures of a freshly-baked cookie, but we have no desire to acquire (or consume) your computer cookies. Even if we did, we don't have access to them.

Despite the relative safety of cookies, you may want to configure your browser to warn you anytime a site requests to save a cookie to your hard drive. You can also have you browser reject cookies, but this could impair your ability to visit some Web sites.

Fodder Network sites do not require membership to view news and features, but forum users are asked to submit a small amount of personal information (email address, username, etc.) to gain full forum access. Only select Fodder Network staffers have access to this information. All of this information is password protected and unavailable to the general public. You can rest assured that we will not sell your email address or anything else to a third party. Also, you will not receive unsolicited email from Fodder Network sites unless it's vitally important. Last time we checked, nothing we do is particularly vital.

In compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA), The Fodder Network does not collect any information from children under the age of 13. Individuals 13 or under who wish to join Fodder Network forums must have a parent contact us at privacy@foddernetwork.com.com before submitting any information.

Privacy-related questions, comments, and concerns should be sent to privacy@foddernetwork.com.com.
